About BTS

BTS/Bangtan Boys/Bulletproof Boy Scouts (also known as 방탄소년단) is a seven member hip-hop boy group under the label Big Hit Entertainment. The group consists of Rap Monster, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook.

 

The meaning of their group name is “to withstand against bullets”, and their fanclub name is A.R.M.Y, which stands for “Adorable Representative MC for Youth”.

 

The group is known for their amazing composition and lyrics, with members composing their own songs and writing their own lyrics, mostly Rap Monster, Suga and J-Hope. They also choreographed some parts of their choreography.

They released their debut album, 2 COOL 4 SKOOL, on June 12, 2013 and had their official debut stage on June 13, 2013 with the song “No More Dream”, and later promoted “We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2”.

 

On September 11, 2013, they made a comeback with a mini-album consisting of 10 tracks, called “O! RUL8,2?”, with their tittle track “N.O”. The followed up on November 6, 2013 with promotion of “Rise of Bangtan”.

 

BTS had won many award since their debut, including “New Artist of the Year” awards including those at the 2013 MelOn Awards and Golden Disk Awards, and the 2014 Seoul Music Awards. They received major bonsang awards for their subsequent albums Dark & Wild and The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part. 1 (화양연화 pt.1).

 

BTS continued rising with their The Most Beautiful Moment in Life trilogy, with both Most Beautiful Moment in Life pt. 2 (화양연화 pt. 2) and The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forver (화양연화: Young Forever) debuting inside the Billboard 200. The Most Beautiful Moment in Life pt. 2 also charted at number one on the Billboard World Albums Chart and remained there for multiple weeks, making BTS the first K-Pop act to achieve that feat.

Known for their large international fanbase, they have performed in Asia, Europe, Australia, North America and South America. Their outstanding performances won them the Best World Performer award in the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA).

 

The members were recruited through Big Hit’s “Hit it” auditions in 2010 and 2011. The original line up for the group went through several changes before the final group of members was established in 2012.

 

Half a year prior to debut, the members began building their name and creating a relationship with fans through Twitter, video blogs, fancafe posts, and by releasing various song covers on Youtube and SoundCloud.

 

Before debuting in 2013, Rap Monster was already performing as an underground rapper and had released several tracks informally, including a collaboration with Zico (of Block B). 

 

Suga was also an underground rapper in Daegu, and J-Hope, who was part of a street dance team named NEURON, was active in the underground dancing scene, participating in various battles and competitions.

 

Before joining Big Hit, Jimin entered Busan High School of Arts as the top student in mordern dance, but later transferred to Korea Arts High School with V, who auditioned in Daegu.

 

Jungkook was casted by multiple agencies after leaving auditions for Superstar K, but eventually chose Big Hit. Jin had been a student at Konkuk University before being streetcasted for auditions.
